Archival Tag Light Stalk - This photo shows the tip of the light stalk, which extends outside the animal into the environment.  At the tip of the stalk is the external temperature sensor.  The fluorescent dye within the stalk amplifies light presence in the environment - allowing for precise measurements of sunrise and sunset, which are used to calculate longitude.
